Art HooHa 2009 raffle
This year the artists of Art HooHa 2009 will be raffling off a fabulous art-ful gift bundle of delight worth over $500 (it's at Heartland Gallery right now if you want to see it). 100% of the proceeds will be donated to A Woman's Place. Tickets will be $1 each or 6 for $5 (or 12 for $10... you get the idea) and will be available at most of the Art HooHa locations throughout the weekend. Tickets will also be available at Furniture Lounge, Heartland Gallery and Beads N Botanicals throughout the week. The drawing will be held Sunday Dec 6th at 4:00pm. You do not need to be present to win -- but you do need to buy a ticket!

With the State of Illinois being over $110,000 behind in its funding to A Woman's Place (formerly called A Woman's Fund), the shelter is now against the ropes and very badly needs your help. They've had to lay off the bulk of their staff, and have others working with no real idea of when a paycheck might arrive. Things are as dire as they've ever been for them.
For those unaware, A Woman's Place is the area's only domestic violence shelter serving not only Champaign County, but also Douglas, Piatt, and Ford counties. Among the services provided are things like transitional housing, court advocacy, a 24-hour hotline, and counseling for both women and children. These services are provided at no charge.
If you want to send a donation right now (again, please don't feel that any amount is too little), make your check payable to A Woman's Place and mail it to:
A Woman's Place
1304 East Main Street
Urbana, IL 61802
You will receive in the mail a receipt for your charitable donation to use for tax purposes. You can also donate through the AWF website, but that route results in a percentage being taken out of the total donation (by the online payment company), so you can do more with your dollars by getting it directly to the shelter. |
